The wind grabbed her by her fingernails and dragged her down the street, pushing and pulling her across crowded sidewalks, teetering her onto the curb of busy intersection after busy intersection. It snarled her hair, twisting and twirling it until not even the most experienced of executioners could unravel the knots, the tangled strands woven into a noose around her neck. Salty tears stung sandblasted cheeks, her bones suffocating under tense muscles that shrank away from the cold, her lungs shrivelling in the poisoned air. She was alone in the coldest, in the fiercest of hells. Civilization.
